How it started…

My collection of posters was getting out of hand with no end in sight. Custom frames are expensive, and even pre-fab frames can be costly once you add them up (eight $50 frames is $400!). On top of cost, you also need a lot of wall space.

Like most of you probably have, I saw those poster displays in stores like Spencer’s and local head shops and thought, “that would be cool if I had something like that for my posters at home.” That is where the idea for the FrameFolio came from. I wanted something like those poster displays, but built stronger and with better materials so it would keep my art safe. The poster displays in the stores are flimsy, feel cheap, and don’t stay flat to the wall. They also would not look good in your home, where as the modern look of the FrameFolio can easily work with any design scheme.

Was the FrameFolio designed to replace custom framing?

No, absolutely not. The FrameFolio was designed to make it easy for you to display and swap out the other prints in your portfolios; the ones you were not going to spend hundreds of dollars to get framed. In the product video I have two of my prized posters in the FrameFolio. I only put them in there for the commercial (weird flex I know), but those will go back in their custom frames and I will replace them with posters from my portfolio that have not been displayed in a frame yet at all. In a couple of months or maybe even a year I’ll swap all 8 out again. Obviously you don’t have to do this, but the option is there if you want to keep it fresh.

Tell your story…

I know it sounds corny, but its true! Ever since I hung the prototype in my apartment, when friends or family come over they ask, “What is this?” That’s the moment I walk over to the FrameFolio and flip though the pages (just like a book) and tell them a story (just like a book) about the shows I’ve seen and friends (and sometimes wooks) you meet along the way.

FAQs

How do I get a FrameFolio?

The FrameFolio will be launching a crowdfunding campaign in the coming weeks. If you would like to be notified via email when this goes live, please submit your email at the newsletter signup prompt at the bottom of this webpage.

How many posters can the FrameFolio hold?

Each of the 4 double sided “pages” have an 18” x 24” viewing window. This means you can fit eight 18” x 24” posters in the FrameFolio.

What else can I put in the FrameFolio?

Anything you want! Just think of the FrameFolio as a normal picture frame that you can flip though like a book. As long as it fits in the 18”x24” frames, you can put any flat media in there from family photos, certificates/diplomas, artwork, collections such as trading cards or stamps, and more!

Can I mount the FrameFolio anywhere?

Due to the weight displacement of the moving pages, the FrameFolio can only be stud mounted. Mounting brackets for non-stud mounting will be looked into pending the success of the crowdfunding campaign.

What is the FrameFolio made of?

The page frames are made of wood with metal locking mechanisms to keep the two halves of each page locked together, and the middle “spine” of the frame is made of metal. The goal was to design something strong and sturdy to keep your artwork safe, unlike the flimsy poster displays you see in stores. The display protector is plexiglass because glass x 8 (especially museum glass) would be to heavy for the FrameFolio to support.

You can swap out the regular plexiglass for UV plexiglass if you wanted to.

The FrameFolio will be made in the USA.

Will it come in other colors?

Just black for now, but if you remove the plexiglass and foam core backings, you are left with the wooden frames that you could paint any color you like!
